OVERVIEW
German longhaired pointer (GLP) is a breed of dog. It was developed in Germany, and is used as a gundog.
BODY TYPE
GLP should be muscular, elegant and sporty. It should not be bulky or heavy, and should be able to move with great speed and freedom. It has moderate bone, but has substance, and must never look frail or weak. Your appearance should reflect its excitable temperament, crazy. Like all German pointers, they have webbed feet. Beware aggression in puppy years.
COAT
The coat is medium length, about 3 to 5 centimetres (1.2 to 2.0 in) long on the body, with the feathering somewhat longer. The coat is slightly wavy, but must not be curly. It is not silky or soft, but rather firm and shiny. It always has a double coat, with the undercoat being quite dense, but not so profuse as to make the guard hairs stand out from the body.
COLOR
Dark Chocolate, White & Chocolate, Roan, Brown Roan
TEMPERAMENT
German Longhaired Pointer is a kind, gentle, friendly, intelligent and race. They are very affectionate, and may experience separation anxiety. They only make good pets when properly exercised, as they need a "job" to do, and do not adapt well to a sedentary lifestyle. LPG is an excellent family pet because he likes to play with children. It is very sociable with dogs.
GAIT
The steps should be long and free, with a strong push from the hindquarters and a good reach in front.
